Best Office Pods in New Zealand

Comparison

The best office pod is the one that fits.

Written by a supplier, so verify everything. Here is who sells pods in New Zealand and how to tell them apart.

Soundproof office booth standing beside a row of desks

The best office pod is the one that fits your space and actually gets used. Judge us, and anyone else, on five things: the acoustic standard and report number, ventilation airflow in m³/h, New Zealand electrical compliance to AS/NZS 3000, what the real lead time is, and an itemised quote. FocusPod is Class A to ISO 23351-1, publishes every price from $10,730 ex GST, and ships from Queensland stock in days.

How to judge any pod

Including ours

We make FocusPod, so read this knowing that. What follows is not a neutral survey — it is the checklist we would use if we were buying, and it happens to be the one we are comfortable being measured against.

Claims in this market are easy to make and hard to verify. These five questions are the ones that separate a supplier who has read their own test reports from one who has not.

What separates suppliers

Four things that aren't visible in a showroom

Two pods that photograph identically can be several thousand dollars apart, and the difference is never in the photograph.

Panel density. Easy to cut to hit a price point, invisible until the booth is next to a sales floor.

Ventilation capacity. A smaller fan and no ducting through the structure is cheaper to build and produces a booth nobody uses twice.

New Zealand electrical compliance. Outlets and wiring to AS/NZS 3000. Units configured for other markets cannot legally be used here without rework.

Where the stock and parts are. Held in New Zealand or shipped from overseas. This is not a product cost, it is the difference between a two-day fix and a two-month one.

The five questions

Ask every supplier the same ones
1

What standard is your acoustic rating measured to, and what is the report number?

Class A to ISO 23351-1 is the answer you want. A decibel figure on its own is not an answer, and a supplier who cannot produce a report number has not read one.

2

What is the airflow in m³/h, and does it ventilate when empty?

The most under-asked question in the category, and the reason perfectly good pods sit unused. A stuffy pod gets abandoned after two bad experiences.

3

Are the outlets New Zealand and the wiring to AS/NZS 3000?

Get it in writing. Units imported directly from overseas marketplaces frequently arrive with US or EU outlets, which cannot legally be used here without rework.

4

What is the real lead time?

Not the best case. The date they will put in writing. Twelve to sixteen weeks is normal for built-to-order imports, and that lead time is a real cost if you need the space before a lease event.

5

Can I see the quote as separate lines?

Pod, freight, installation, furniture. Bundled totals are not comparable between suppliers, and that is usually the point of them. If the answer is no, that tells you what you need to know.

Common questions

Asked by real buyers

What is the best office pod in New Zealand?

Compare on five things: the acoustic standard and report number, ventilation airflow in cubic metres per hour, New Zealand electrical compliance to AS/NZS 3000, what the real lead time is, and an itemised quote. FocusPod is Class A to ISO 23351-1, publishes every price from $10,730 ex GST, and ships from New Zealand stock in days.

How do I compare office pod suppliers?

Ask every supplier the same five questions: what standard is the acoustic rating measured to and what is the report number, what is the airflow in cubic metres per hour, are the outlets New Zealand and the wiring to AS/NZS 3000, what the real lead time is, and can I see the quote broken into pod, delivery, installation and furniture as separate lines.

Which office pods are made in New Zealand?

Very few acoustic pods are manufactured in New Zealand; almost all are imported, including the European brands. What differs between suppliers is whether stock and spare parts are held here, which decides your lead time and how fast something gets fixed. FocusPod holds both on the Queensland.

How much should I pay for an office pod in New Zealand?

Between roughly $10,730 and $20,335 ex GST for the pod itself depending on size, with delivery included by a reputable supplier. Installation adds $1,145 to $2,070. If a quote is a single bundled number with no breakdown, ask for the lines before comparing it to anything.

What acoustic rating should I look for?

Class A under ISO 23351-1, which is the highest band for speech level reduction and corresponds to around 30 dB. Every FocusPod model is rated Class A. A decibel figure quoted without naming the standard it was measured against means nothing.

Do I need to see a pod before buying?

It helps, and any serious supplier will have one you can sit in. Listen to someone talking inside with the door shut, then stand a metre away. Also spend ten minutes inside with the door closed — that is how you find out whether the ventilation is adequate, which no spec sheet will tell you honestly.

Send us the other quote.

We will tell you honestly where it beats ours and where it does not. If theirs is the right pod for your floor, we will say so.
